Dr. Yo's Unoriginal Masters is my tribute to many great artists from the un/popular music of the last 30 years or so. I would like to thank all of the artists who wrote and originally performed these songs; they have been a great inspiration to me throughout my life.
This project is intended as a tribute to their talents, and not as a form of exploitation. Ideally, I would have these recordings released commercially, and then I could pay royalties. At this time, handmade CDs of Unoriginal Masters are available free of charge when another Dr. Yo purchase is made.
The songs are presented in streaming MP3 format. The bitrate is 64k, so if you're on a modem you may need to wait a bit while the track downloads.

Credits:
All instruments and vocals are by Dr. Yo, with the notable exception of "VR Killed the Video Star," which is a collaboration between Dr. Yo and XIAN.
Instruments played by Dr. Yo: Roland, Sequential Circuits, Korg and E-mu analog synths, Yamaha FM synths, Roland and Alesis wavetable synths, Casio toy keys, Mattell Synsonics Drums, Roland drum machines, PAiA theremin, Moog vocoder, Percy’s Guitar, cheesy sound cards, vinyl samples, Cakewalk and MasterTracks software MIDI sequencers, Roland analog sequencer, Lexicon, Yamaha and Roland digital effects, Radio Shack reverb, etc. etc. etc.
Instruments played by XIAN on "VR Killed the Video Star": Yamaha FM synth, Yamaha consumer keyboard, Roland analog synth, Cakewalk software sequencer, backup vocals.
All recordings were made at Studio YO in San Francisco, except "No Man’s Land," created at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Most sessions were recorded on 1/4" 4-track (on semi-permanent loan from Studio XIAN). "No Man’s Land" was sourced on 1/2" open-reel 8-track; "Death Medley" and "Armagedley" were recorded direct to hard disk. Some songs were mixed to DAT using an analog mixing board. However, in most cases the raw tracks were transferred to hard disk, then digitally manipulated and mixed using Digidesign Session, Sound Forge, and Cool Edit 96.
Front cover video still by David Michael Ross, processed by Dr. Yo. Inside photo is from the 16mm film "A" If And Only If "Not A" by Aaron Ross, still image processed by Dr. Yo. Graphic design by Dr. Yo. Analog circuit schematics are from the synth-diy email list.
Special thanks to those who donated or loaned instruments and equipment: XIAN, Conrad, David Michael Ross, Ann R. Key, John Reiss, Michael Scroggins, Scott Duncan, Alan Shulman, Mark Bolas, and Carlos Newcomb.
Extra special thanks to my biggest fans: Mom & Boardy.
