Media Blitz, 1992. 3 min, color, stereo. Available on VHS video as part of the collection Opus Alchymicum. This piece just sort of happened. My instructor at CalArts, Michael Scroggins, recorded the 1988 presidential debate between Bush and Dukakis on 3/4" tape. He left it in the Videographics lab because the blue background behind the candidates was perfect for demonstrating the video compositing technique of chroma keying. I was experimenting with the synthesizers in the lab one night, and grabbed the debate tape. The next thing I knew, I was jamming out! I edited the resulting footage together with a chaotic soundtrack I created by feeding a MIDI pitchrider a noisy, confusing signal. And it actually turned out to be a quite engaging piece, both aesthetically and theoretically.
