Available on VHS video as part of the collection Opus Alchymicum. While at the Experimental Television Center working on Cruise the Circuit, I experimented with simultaneous creation of audio and visual music. This piece is the result. I improvised a musical composition on their sampling keyboard, and recorded it into the computer as a MIDI sequence. Additional sound sources came from analog oscillators and the computer's sound card. Once the audio and MIDI were recorded to hard disk, I patched the MIDI output of the computer to a MIDI-to-control voltage converter I brought along. The control voltages then modulated parameters of the Experimental TV Center video synthesizers. As the music played, MIDI data controlled the video. While recording to videotape, I twiddled additional knobs on the synth oscillators, adding another layer of sound and visual improvisation to the piece. |
