Bronwen I: Rex Mustelidae
Hardware: Pentium III-933
Richard Deutsch of Yucca Tree Records
invited me to contribute to a concept album called OOPPERA. The idea is that
seven artists or groups each contribute a ten-minute opera. My contribution,
"The Odyssey of the Weasel King," is a collaboration with
Anna Geyer. Anna wrote the lyrics, and
I wrote and performed the music.
This image is an illustration from the booklet that accompanies the
soon-to-be-released audio CD. It is a portrait of the main character, Bronwen, the King of the Weasels.

Clear Light
Hardware: Pentium III-933
This is a fractal image I created using Scott Draves's "Flame" algorithm, which was licensed by Metacreations for inclusion in Kai's Power Tools 5. I also performed a fair amount of manipulation to the image within Photoshop proper. |
Phosphenes
Hardware: Pentium II-400
Phosphenes is a work-in-progress which incorporates purely digital imagery with
traditional experimental film techniques. It is a collaboration between myself and
Anna Geyer.
I provide 2D and 3D computer animation, and Anna contributes 16mm film which has been directly
manipulated in various ways.
We take our inspiration from phantom images seen only in the mind's eye, e.g. the hypnagogic patterns
seen in the state between waking and sleep. Those ephemeral images have a luminous quality which can
only be emulated on film or CRT, and therefore we don't attempt to create a direct representation.
Instead, we draw upon our experiences of personal interior space to create new abstractions which
have a hypnotic quality.

The Residents: Stars of Stage and Screen
Hardware: Pentium III-933
The Residents are an avant garde music group who have worked in many forms of multimedia. This image was an entry for a collage contest hosted by their label, Ralph Records. The photographs of the characters were supplied by the Ralph website, and the rest was created by me. |
WEGG3 Speaker: "Lunare 3"
Hardware: Pentium III-933
WEGG3 is a company which makes some of the finest audiophile loudspeakers in the world. William Eggleston III (son of the famous color photographer) hired me to light and render this Autocad model in 3ds max. The challenge was to make the 3D rendering match the photographs of real loudspeakers, and I think it came out rather well. |
