It is with mixed emotions that I must announce the end of Dr. Yo Internet Radio. It's been fun, but I can no longer afford the expenses. Thanks to everyone who listened, complimented, and donated.

Greetings friends. Welcome to the Dr. Yo Zone.

I'm an interdisciplinary artist who makes computer animation, video art, and electronic music. My work is experimental, but draws upon a long tradition: the art form known as visual music. I summon the ghost of surrealism, with its noble goal of liberating the unconscious. Using high technology, I hope to access the contents of the collective psyche to further the process of evolution.

High-sounding words, granted. My point is this: we should use technology for creative, worthwhile purposes. Technology must not merely act upon us, mold us, brainwash us. In the words of Jello Biafra, don't hate the media, become the media. These days, incredible tools like Maya are available to everyone, not just big studios. We can create photorealistic, interactive worlds that are only limited by our imagination! Think about that for a second... it's a milestone in history. And through my teaching, I strive to be an agent for the democratization of that creative potential. A plurality of independent viewpoints is vital to a living, developing culture.

Now that we have access to the means of media production, how should we use this awesome power? I choose to perform an inner exploration, hopefully leading to an evolution of consciousness. It's all very Jungian and Whole Earth Catalog. Adopting the tools of CG, video, music, internet, whatever -- we can create something startlingly different from mainstream media. Program your own brain the way you like it. And this is not just one-way communication. As always, the viewer participates in the creation of meaning -- I actively encourage it. In turn, the artist receives feedback from the work and the audience. Then the recycling begins and the meta-levels of discourse start taking shape, and it's very exciting!

That process of positive evolutionary feedback could easily go beyond homo sapiens, so in some regards I am a transhumanist. Our ultimate goal may simply be to design our own successors, but in the meantime we should try to be better humans. After all, we are the stewards of the Earth, so we had better not screw it up. Humans are the collective ego-consciousness of Gaia. We need to grow a collective superego, or even the next level beyond that: an ethical conscience that goes beyond compliance to Confucian ritual. Then maybe we will earn the right to claim a reason to exist.

So you see, I am an existentialist surrealist cyberpunk freak. Late at night I like to read articles about dark energy quintessence and look at the latest satellite photos of the shrinking Aral Sea. My particular path to enlightenment is leading me through cyberspace. Along the way, I'm sure to meet a few kindred souls, and I hope that you are one of them.
